Louisiana Senate to Vote on Age Increase for Certain Firearms Urge Your State Senator to Vote “NO” on SB 274
The Louisiana Senate Judiciary C Committee recently gave its approval to SB 274, legislation that would prohibit young adults between the age of 18 and 20 from purchasing certain rifles and shotguns. The Louisiana Senate could take the bill up as early as TODAY.
SB 274 would require those purchasing “assault weapons,” as defined by the bill, to be at least 21 years old; however, the definition of “assault weapon” under the proposed legislation is extremely broad, and would encompass many common hunting rifles and shotguns. NSSF not only opposes this age-based discrimination, but also takes concern with the broad definition. This new definition of “assault weapon” will certainly open the door to an assault weapons ban in the future in Louisiana.
Contact your state Senator IMMEDIATELY and respectfully urge him or her to oppose any age increase for firearms purchases. Urge a “NO” vote on SB 274.
