California Committees to Consider Legislation to Increase Age for Firearms Purchases Tomorrow
Tomorrow, June 19, the California Senate Public Safety Committee and Assembly Public Safety Committee will consider bills that will raise the age to purchase a firearm. The Senate Public Safety Committee is scheduled to hear AB 3, legislation that will increase the age from 18 to 21 years old to purchase both firearms and ammunition. Contact the Senate Public Safety Committee immediately and respectfully urge them to vote “No” on AB 3.
Additionally, the Assembly Public Safety Committee is scheduled to take up SB 1100. This legislation will increase the age from 18 to 21 years old for all firearms purchases and transfers, with limited exceptions. Please contact the Assembly Public Safety Committee today and ask them to vote “No” on SB 1100.
These bills will do nothing to increase public safety, but will infringe on the rights of young adults between the ages of 18 and 20, denying them the right to purchase a firearm for lawful purposes, such as self-defense, hunting, or recreational shooting.
